SIMON’S HOUSE

“We shape our buildings: thereafter they shape us” – Winston Churchill

Simon’s home will have double bricks walls built with recycled red clay bricks. This will create an old industrial look and feel in combination with two story void on the north side. Simon traveled the world and wishes to have a loft-like atmosphere despite the the limited floor space which is within 90 sq m.

The house will be facing north to optimise a solar passive performance of the building.

The only opening facing east, which is part of the tall corner window in the lounge, will have a sliding wooden louver to deflect the sun during hot summer days and to provide some extra privacy.

The skyline of Perth CBD is one of the main features which can be enjoyed from this site: so what better motif than this clean line to be projected and cut out the north fence line. In the pictures below there are two models: one with MDF and pine structure and one with the walls made out of perspex. The perspex model was made to study the light. Models scale 1:30.
